ATTENTION JACKSON RESIDENTS: Mayor Lumumba has issued a STAY AT HOME ORDER for the City of Jackson to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus, which will take effect Friday, April 3, 2020, at 12:00 am. As a precaution, City Hall and all non-essential city government offices, including our Senior Community Centers and Early Childhood Development Centers will be closed until April 17, 2020. Public gatherings of 10 or more people are strictly prohibited. Restaurants may only operate as take-out, drive-through, or delivery service only. Jackson City Council

The City of Jackson operates under the mayor-council form of government with a full-time mayor elected at-large and seven part-time council members elected (one each) from the seven wards.

The City Council is authorized by Section 21-8-9 of the Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended, to serve as the legislative branch for the city. Each member of the council is empowered to perform the duties specified by the general laws of the state.
