Robert Lee named interim Director of Public Works

Posted on February 16, 2023

For Immediate Release:
February 10, 2023

(Jackson, Miss.) – The City of Jackson announces the promotion of City Engineer Robert Lee to interim Public Works Director. The City made this decision as it re-envisions the role of the Public Works department following the appointment of third-party administrator, Ted Henifin, who will continue to oversee water and water billing operations.

Mr. Lee is exceptionally knowledgeable and qualified in overseeing the design and construction of infrastructure improvements in our City.  He has been an indispensable asset to the City during our most recent water crisis, and has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to address day-to-day infrastructure operations.

After graduating from Mississippi State, Mr. Lee began his work with the City of Jackson as a civil engineer, nearly 20 years ago. He moved up the ladder since then, going from senior civil engineer to City Engineer, where he has oversight over the development of all capital improvement projects in the City of Jackson.

“This is a big responsibility in our City given our challenges, and the City is grateful for Mr. Lee’s interest in taking on the job,” said Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. “I have full trust in his decision-making, knowledge and skills moving forward.”

The City will launch a nationwide search to find a permanent replacement.
