Holiday Season Kickoff and Celebration slated for Dec. 3 in Jackson

The City of Jackson’s kickoff of the holiday season will be filled with holiday-themed events, lights, decorations, music, food and shopping.

The series of events, called Capital City Lights, will take place from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. in downtown Jackson on Dec. 3.

The activities will take place in the absence of a Christmas parade this year. Some of the numerous activities that afternoon and night are listed below:

  • Christmas by candlelight
  • Ice skating rink
  • Two outdoor holiday markets for shopping (Magnolia Sunset Markets and JXN Flea Market)
  • Bethlehem Tree Museum Store open houses
  • Classic cars, emergency vehicles set up in “touch-a-truck” style
  • Live music, marching bands
  • Lights and decorations everywhere
  • Food trucks
  • SugarPlum Shoppe
  • Photos with Santa and the First Family
  • Surprise performances and giveaways
  • “The Nutcracker”

One of the features of Capital City Lights is a scheduled candlelight tour from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. of the Mississippi Department of Archive and History locations, including the Mississippi State Capitol, Governor’s Mansion, the grounds of the Old Capitol Museum, the Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum.

Attendees can park and take advantage of the shuttle buses running between sites or walk or drive between locations on their own schedule.

Capital City Lights is a first of its kind partnership with city and state agencies, media, nonprofits and businesses to celebrate the holiday season. The organizations involved are listed below:
