In an effort to protect the health and well-being of our citizens, a Civil Emergency has been declared in the City of Jackson to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. As a precaution, City Hall and all non-essential city government offices, including our Senior Community Centers and Early Childhood Development Centers will be closed until March 31, 2020. Public gatherings of 10 or more people are prohibited. Bars have been ordered to close and restaurants may only operate as take-out, drive-through, or delivery service only. Jerry “JC” Blount, Deputy Fire Chief

J.C. Blount currently serves as the Deputy Fire Chief of Emergency Services. He began his career with the Jackson Fire Department when he was hired in 1993 as a firefighter.

He brings many technical skills to the position including; Incident Command, EMS, Special Operations, Technical Rescue, Fire Suppression, HazMat, Health & Safety, Strategic Planning, High-Rise Fire Training , Dive/Rope Rescue Operations, Fire & Explosives Awareness,  Officer Training and Labor Relations.

Chief Blount has always been well respected by both firefighters and Officers of the department and is known for his balanced mediation of issues. Chief Blount states, that his top priority will be the health and safety of our firefighters.  He plans to work with the Fire Chief and Firefighters’ IAFF Local 87 Union to do everything possible to make sure all of our personnel go home safely to their families and live a long & healthy life.
