City of Jackson Update for Monday Evening

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CITY OF JACKSON UPDATE FOR MONDAY EVENING

(JACKSON, MS) – The City of Jackson is issuing the following updates for Monday, March 1, 2021, related to the ongoing water crisis and the recovery efforts being made as a result of recent winter weather:

WATER RESTORATION

  • Today we saw pressure stay around 83 to 85 psi. This is good, but ultimately, we need to get to 90 psi and stay there consistently in order for water to be restored to everyone. This is an old system and we are taking it day by day as it recharges itself.
    • We are gauging progress by measuring the psi (pounds per square inch) in the water distribution system. The goal is to reach around 90 psi at OB Curtis WTP and around 80 psi at JH Fewell WTP. Today’s reading is up from 37 psi when the cold front came through resulting in water outages throughout the City of Jackson and City of Byram.
  • Our crews continued to visit areas around the City today, to test pressure levels and release trapped air from hydrants that may be impeding flow. Specifically, we visited neighborhoods in South Jackson and at higher elevations where we know residents are continuing to experience outages. This will continue tomorrow.
  • The list of water main breaks/leaks throughout the city continues to be dwindled down by our crews and we are feeling encouraged by this progress. A total of 96 water main breaks/ leaks have been reported throughout the City. As of tonight, we have completed 53 repairs. Of the 35 outstanding, eight (8) have been confirmed and MS 811 Locate requested. A detailed list is at the end of this release. Please continue to report any water main breaks/leaks to 311.
  • The system-wide precautionary boil water notice is still in effect.
  • PLEASE CONSERVE WATER during this water outage crisis. Limit water usage to the necessities. Conserving water will allow fellow Jacksonians to get back online faster.
  • All water meter issues should be directed to 601-960-0762 and 601-960-0761.
