Press Release: City of Jackson to Distribute FREE Masks to Help Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

Posted on June 2, 2020

FACE MASK PRESSER

(Jackson, Miss.) – Tuesday, Mayor Lumumba and Hinds County Supervisor, Robert Graham announced plans to distribute 75,000 masks to residents throughout the City of Jackson. The masks were given to the City by the Hinds County Board of Supervisors thanks to the collective efforts of Mississippi Emergency Management, FEMA, and the State of Mississippi.

Supervisor Graham expressed gratitude for the partnership with the City of Jackson saying, “First I would like to thank MEMA, the Mississippi Emergency Management, FEMA, the Governor of the State of Mississippi for providing these masks to Hinds County and to the City of Jackson. I also would like to thank the Mayor for partnering with Hinds County and making sure that everyone in the City of Jackson has access to a mask.”

Mayor Lumumba has been a strong proponent of every citizen wearing a face covering to ensure everyone’s safety. During the press conference he said, “One of the most sacred and important responsibilities of elected officials is to ensure the safety of everyone that they serve. So I am very grateful, specifically for Hinds County for this very generous donation and I’m grateful to the President of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors, Robert Graham. It has been a delight, as we have dealt with this very unique challenge in this 100-year pandemic, that we have been able to call one another to discuss how we are able to support our community, discuss the challenges, and discuss solutions to those challenges. So, having the ability to be able to provide masks to our residents is a great assistance to the City of Jackson.”
