City creates online portal for business licenses

Posted on October 18, 2022

For Immediate Release:

October 18, 2022

(Jackson, Miss.) – The City of Jackson’s Planning and Development Department has been working on a number of exciting and informative projects in recent months, including the revamping of its business licenses program.

Current or prospective business owners who prefer to purchase and renew their license online now have that ability. For the first time, the whole process can be completed online. This also means business owners can purchase or renew their license after hours and on weekends.

Once a license is received, an annual renewal notice will be sent electronically, and business owners can renew and pay online using any computer or mobile device.

“We know that a business owner’s time is valuable, and if they can obtain or renew a license online using a computer or mobile device, that is easier for them,” said Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. “This is good news. We will continue to do all that we can to make the City of Jackson as business-friendly as possible.”

Additionally, the in-person process has also been refined, making it easier for those who purchase and renew their license in person. The result is a much more efficient and streamlined process for applying for a business license.

An application for a business license or renewal of an existing license can be submitted at or call 601-960-1148 for more information.
