Press Release: City of Jackson Warns Citizens about Building Inspector Impersonations

Posted on August 29, 2018

City of Jackson Color Seal

(Jackson, MS) – Over the past few weeks the City of Jackson has received a limited number of complaints regarding a Building Inspector impersonator. We are currently investigating these claims and to date none have been substantiated.

The City of Jackson Building Inspectors can be identified by:

  • Use of a Marked City Vehicle
  • Wearing a City of Jackson Uniform Shirt or Building Inspector Badge
  • Carrying a City of Jackson Employee Identification Card

Building Inspectors only approach property when requested as part of a building construction permit, a request for an inspection, or a construction related complaint. Inspectors do not request to enter a structure unless they are performing a requested inspection. Inspectors call the provided contact person on the permit before arriving for requested inspections.

If you have experienced an individual claiming to be a building inspector that is not driving a city vehicle, not wearing a uniform shirt or badge, and does not have an identification card, please report the incident to the Code Services Office at 601-960-1160.

If you feel threatened or in need of police assistance please call 9-1-1.
