Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba extends the Executive Order closing City Hall and non-essential offices effective Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at 12:00 a.m. through Thursday, January 21, 2021, until rescinded or superseded by another applicable Proclamation or Executive Order. The Department of the Municipal Clerk at City Hall will still be open to receive legal documents as well as assist TSA, passport, open records and 2021 elections customers.

Solid Waste Division

The City of Jackson provides residential garbage collection service twice per week to dispose of household trash generated from your property to citizens who live in single family homes, duplexes, and triplexes.

1st Collection Day      Household Garbage Only
2nd Collection Day
     Household Garbage (2 Bulk Items and Bagged Leaves)

Bulk Items

  • Furniture
  • Mattresses/ Box Spring
  • Radios
  • Televisions
  • Couch
  • Toilets

Garbage collection services begin when water/sewer services are established. To apply for these services, visit the Water Service Business Administration located at 1000 Metrocenter Drive, Jackson, MS 39209. 

Holiday Collection

Your regular collection day for trash and recyclables during the holidays will not change unless your collection day falls on or after one of five holidays.

  • New Year's Day
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday
  • The Fourth of July
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Example: If your normal collection day falls on or after one of the five holidays listed above, then your garbage will be collected on the following collection day.
