The Department of Planning and Development promotes economic development in Jackson by helping new and existing companies meet their goals for growth while creating jobs and improving the quality of life for residents. The Department is also responsible for stimulating housing development while preserving the City's architectural and historic landmarks and neighborhoods, and protecting the quality of life through zoning regulations. Site Plan Review and Subdivision review is processed through this Department working with Police, Public Works, and the City Attorney's Office. The Department provides planning staff and services to the City Council, Planning Commission, Jackson Historic Preservation Commission, the Chief Administrative Office, and citizens.
