Duties: Attend and participate in classroom and practical instruction in law enforcement, criminal procedure, police methods and practices, departmental policies and procedures and related subject matters; participate in field training programs, physical fitness and related training. With a Field Training Officer, patrol a designated area of the city to preserve law and order, discover and prevent the commission of crimes, and enforce traffic and other laws and ordinances, answer calls and complaints involving automobile accidents, robberies, and related misdemeanors and felonies. Perform other duties as assigned. |
Qualifications: U.S. Citizenship, good moral character, twenty one (21) years of age, high school graduate or GED. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have no felony convictions or serious criminal background. Police Officer selection procedure also includes written test, psychological test, polygraph examination, background investigation, criminal records check, drug screening, medical examination, physical agility test, panel/individual interviews. Experienced police officers with Mississippi Minimum Standards Certification are encouraged to apply. Experienced Officers are not required to take the entrance exam. In order to qualify as an experienced officer, a copy of the Mississippi Standards & Training Certificate with certification number must be included with application. Candidates must meet all requirements and will be required to attend the necessary refresher training. |
