Infrastructure
stability is a prime concern across our country. There is a huge
disparity between the amount of funding needed to address the
infrastructure improvement needs that are identified and the amount of
available funds. Each day this “funding gap” widens. In the City of
Jackson we have estimated that the needed investment to improve the
City’s infrastructure systems (roads, bridges, drainage, water and wastewater) are anywhere from $750M to $1B.
On
January 14, 2014, citizens from all over our great city convincingly
passed legislation to approve a 1% sales tax increase to address our
infrastructure needs; a way to help close the funding gap in Jackson. In
April of 2014, this Administration took on the challenge to bring about
positive change in Jackson and to provide the best possible quality of
life for all its constituents by making Infrastructure Investments a top
priority. We’re taking a progressive approach to address the issues
that have plagued our city for decades; an approach that has put Jackson
at the forefront of a national conversation. The conversation on
sustainable infrastructure management is an opportunity to solidify
Jackson as a leader in innovation and planning throughout our great
nation.
The
Administration has crafted, and proudly presents the Bold New
Infrastructure Improvement Plan, a plan that lays out a 20 year strategy
for sustainable investment in the City’s infrastructure while achieving
the triple bottom line.
