Melvin Priester, Jr.

Melvin V. Priester, Jr., a native of Jackson, Mississippi, is a proud graduate of Murrah High School. He graduated from Harvard College magna cum laude in 2001.  In 2004, Mr. Priester, Jr. obtained his law degree from Stanford Law School.  After graduating from law, Melvin was a litigation associate in the San Francisco office of Morrison & Foerster LLP, where he specialized in financial services litigation for banking and consumer lending clients.  In 2008, Melvin returned home to Jackson to join his family’s law practice, Priester Law Firm, which was started by his parents, Judge Melvin Priester, Sr. and Charlene Stimley Priester.  Mr. Priester, Jr. is fluent in Portuguese and has done pro bono and volunteer work for clients including the Innocence Project of Northern California, the North Midtown Art Center, and numerous indigent clients.  At Priester Law Firm, Mr. Priester, Jr. represents both individuals in business litigation, governmental affairs, real estate, personal injury law, family law, and medical malpractice. Mr. Priester, Jr. is licensed to practice law in Mississippi and California and is a member of the Charles Clark Inns of Court, the American Bar Association, the Magnolia Bar Association, and the Capital Area Bar Association. He attends New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson and resides in the Woodhaven neighborhood of Jackson’s Ward II. Since joining the City Council in 2013, Melvin has focused on strengthening neighborhoods, working closely with the police in precinct 3 to fight crime, and increasing government transparency.  Melvin has also fought to protect and expand after-school programs in his ward. In his spare time, Melvin is an active record collector and supporter of the arts.
