Allen Anthony Jones is Director of the City of Jackson, Parks & Recreation Department. As Director, Mr. Jones oversees four (4) divisions with approximately two hundred eighty (280) employees, and is responsible for managing a budget of over 8 million dollars.

Mr. Jones recently married Evelyn R. Jones on January 3, 2014. From a previous marriage of twenty-three (23) years, Mr. Jones has two sons, one daughter and six (6) adoring grandchildren.

Mr. Jones received a B.S. Degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Alcorn University. His minor was in Biology. He continued his education by not only taking courses towards a Masters of Science in Recreation Administration, from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), but also by teaching Recreation Administration classes for five (5) years.

Mr. Jones is known nationally throughout many parks and recreation departments, sports and professional associations, for his stability and trustworthiness. He has presided as State President of the MS Recreation Parks Association (MRPA) and also served as a Board Trustee on the National Recreation Parks Association (NRPA).

Mr. Jones has strong work ethics. He encourages and conveys “team spirit” through his life-long dedication and his commitment to his employees, the community and everyone he meets.

He possesses the unique ability to make the best of even the worse situations through his motivational skills and knowledge, as well as in his desire to always think positive! Mr. Jones never sees failure as an outcome!

For twenty (20) plus years, Mr. Jones has been chosen to speak on recreation leadership and staff motivation topics, at numerous regional and national recreation conventions.

  • Mr. Jones is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
  • Mr. Jones is 32nd Degree Mason, Oxford Lodge, No. 16.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Parks and Recreation is to enhance the physical and recreational needs of the public by enhancing the quality of life of our patrons and promoting positive, recreational programming through coaching, teaching, mentoring, preserving, protecting, and enhancing its park lands and public green space.

Facts about Our Parks and Recreational Facilities
Did you know that approximately 2,300 acres of land in the City of Jackson are composed of our 56 city parks and facilities? The areas include: playgrounds, swimming pools, golf courses, tennis courts, picnic grounds, and jogging and walking paths. In addition, our special facilities include: community centers, which are available for public use; Smith Wills Stadium; Mynelle Gardens, which is the city’s botanical gardens; and the Jackson Zoo. We always set the safety of our patrons as top priority, so all properties are patrolled by the City of Jackson Park Rangers.

The City of Jackson also offers a wide variety of recreational programs. Our athletics division offers youth and adults softball, flag football, and basketball and baseball leagues. In addition, our division offers swimming, golfing, and tennis lessons. Citizens can also enjoy our exciting neighborhood festivals, after school programs, and seasonal clinics.
