Lee A. Unger

Since May 2010, Lee A. Unger has served as the director of Finance and Administration for the City of Jackson, Mississippi.  In that capacity he oversees the city’s operating and capital budget, and provides leadership to the areas of finance, procurement, municipal court services, information technology, and telecommunications.  He and his staff provide administrative support to citizens and departments through the procurement of goods and services and provide the Mayor and managers with information needed for financial decisions and fiscal accountability.

Prior to assuming his current position, he served for 28 years at The Piney Woods School, a private coeducational boarding school, as vice president for fiscal affairs and served one year as interim president.

A native of Goodman, MS, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from historic Alcorn State University, and has completed graduate work at Jackson State University and Grand Canyon University.

He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Word of Life Church, Greater Jackson Alumni Chapter, and Government Finance Officers Association.

He serves on several boards within the City of Jackson.  He was co-chair of Jackson 2000, a local civic organization that focuses on racial harmony and equality.  He also serves on the board of directors of Greater Jackson Community Foundation.  He is founder of the Lead Foundation, Inc. a nonprofit organization that provides scholarship assistance to youth, and provides programs and initiative in the areas of leadership, education, arts, and diversity. He has and continues to serve as a mentor and friend to many young professionals seeking positive focus and direction.

Department of Administration
The Department of Administration provides efficient administrative, technological, and financial support services to citizens, customers, departments, and stakeholders of the City of Jackson in an effort to insure that effective and needed services are provided to all constituents.

Our goal is to provide fiscal leadership and superior financial services through efficient management of the City's financial resources.

The administrative arm of the City of Jackson is the Department of Administration, which incorporates the division of Finance, Purchasing, Budget, Treasury Management, Information Services, Geographical Information Systems, Telecommunications, Records Management, Publications,and Municipal Court Services.

The department prepares quarterly financial statements, the annual budgets, and special reports as needed advising the various departments and governing authorities of the financial condition of the City of Jackson.  The annual budget contains recommended operating expenditures, capital expenditures, and revenue expectations from all sources.

The Division of Finance, working with the external auditors, prepares the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) annually.  The City's CAFR has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) with the Certificate of Excellence in financial reporting for the last several years.

Our Information Technology Division provides state of the art technological services to departments in an effort to improve their efficiency with enhanced and timely delivery of services to citizens.  They have made tremendous strides in upgrading the technology infrastructure and bringing on new and improved applications for ease of use throughout the City of Jackson.
