How Do I?
Stay Cool in the Heat!
Protect yourself from the summer sun, heat and harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays as you walk to and from bus stops by applying the following tips.
    1. Carry water. Prevent heat exhaustion by drinking lots of water throughout the day, and making sure children do the same. Take water along for the walk, the wait, and the travel on the bus. You can bring plastic drink containers with a hard plastic such as water bottles on the bus.
    2. Passengers waiting at bus stops should prepare for the excessive temperatures, especially since routes generally operate every 60 minutes.
    3. Use the fastest bus route. There is usually more than one way to reach your destination.
    4. Know your bus departure time. Arrive at your bus stop about five minutes before the bus is scheduled to leave.
    5. Limit direct sun exposure during midday. Prolonged exposure to the sun's UV rays from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. can be harmful to your skin. If you must be out during this time shade yourself with an umbrella, hat and the right clothing as defined below:
    6. Cover up. Lightweight long-sleeved shirts and long pants or skirts protect skin from the sun's damaging rays. Make sure babies in strollers are well shaded from the sun; they are less able to move out of the sun's direct rays.
    7. Carry an umbrella. Small umbrellas are easy to carry and create shade for you and your children.
    8. Wear a hat. There are lots of choices of hats to cover your head and to help protect you from the sun.
    9. Remember to board the bus quickly as heat escapes inside the bus from the doors when they open.
    10. Have your fare ready.
    11. Please take care as we reach extreme temperatures in the summer months.

    Live Healthy
    Drink before you’re thirsty.
Thirst is a warning sign telling you that your body needs water. Drink at least eight 8-oz glasses of water each day to beat your thirst. Drink more if you are participating in physical activity.

Eat right. Avoid foods with too much salt, which can cause dehydration and bloating. Fruits and vegetables are a great choice since they help replenish fluids in your body.

Check your skin. Check your body for unusual marks, moles or discolorations. See a doctor if you have any concerns.
