Our Mission: JATRAN provides safe and efficient public transportation services for the citizens daily. We are user-friendly, reliable, courteous and enthusiastic about serving the community. We strive to meet the customer needs and to be cost-effective in providing quality services. 

Our Vision: To provide safe, reliable and efficient public transportation that connects our neighborhoods and enhances the quality of life for the citizens of Jackson.

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

The City of Jackson, Department of Planning and Development, Transit Services Division operates it programs and services without regard to race, color and national origin in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Any person who believes that she or he has been aggrieved by any unlawful discriminatory practice under Title VI must file a complaint within 180 days of the alleged occurrence to any of the following by mail, in person, fax and/or email:

Reasonable Modification & Accomodations
The Department of Transportation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (section 504) specifically to provide that transportation entities are required to make reasonable modifications/accommodations to policies, practices, and procedures to avoid discrimination and ensure that their programs are accessible to individuals with disabilities.

The City of Jackson will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, and activities. Exceptions would include modifications that:

  • Cause a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
  • Result in a fundamental alteration of the service.
  • Are not actually necessary in order for the individual with a disability to access the entity’s service.
  • Result in undue financial and administration burden.

Accessible and Alternative Formats

All public information materials including, but not limited to, the HandiLift brochure, certification forms, periodic service and/or fare change announcements, consumer satisfaction surveys and passenger comment cards will be made available in accessible formats upon request in accordance with 49 CFR §37.167(2)(f) of the ADA.

JATRAN normally stocks materials in large print and audio tape formats. Braille and other formats will be provided within a reasonable period of time of a request.
