Transfers
Transfers are issued to provide service between two points not served by a single route. Transfers are free and valid for a maximum of 1 hour and

15 minutes after issued. Please ask the bus operator for a transfer when you board the bus. Transfers cannot be used for a return trip. Transfers are only issued to customers who pay a fare or board with a JATRAN pass.

Bus Destination Information

On the outside, at the top of the bus is where the destination information is located. Please check the route name and destination of the bus before boarding to ensure that you are on the correct bus. If you have questions, the bus operator will be happy to assist you.

JATRAN Bus Stops
JATRAN bus stops are marked by a green and yellow bus stop signage conveniently located along selected routes throughout Jackson. The bus will pick up passengers when signaled from a designated bus stop. Also, you can board the bus at Union Station, which serves as the transit hub center for JATRAN.

JATRAN Service Area
JATRAN operates HandiLift Service to persons with disabilities who are ADA paratransit eligible.  The coverage area for these services is within the city limits of Jackson, extending to a3/4-miles radius around JATRAN’s Fixed Routes.

Before Boarding Bus
Please have exact fare or bus pass ready before boarding the bus. Bus drivers do not carry money and cannot make change. Before boarding, allow passengers to exit the bus first.

Service Animal Policy

The ADA defined service animals as; “dogs” that are individually trained to do the work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.  “Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under ADA guidelines.

A few things to keep in mind when bringing your service animal on board Jatran:

  • You are responsible for the supervision and action of your animal while on board.
  • The animal must be in a harness, a leash, or be secured in some way; or the individual must maintain effective control by voice, signals or some other effective means. 
  • With few exceptions, the animal is expected to remain on the floor.
  • The animal must be housebroken


Prohibited on the Bus

  • No guns, knives or weapons allowed on JATRAN vehicles
  • No smoking or use of tobacco
  • No food, drink or alcoholic beverages
  • No radios are allowed on the bus
  • Do not talk to driver unless you need assistance

 
Exiting the Bus
When the bus is within a block of your destination, pull the cord by the window to signal the bus operator that you want to exit the bus.

Thank you for choosing JATRAN as your source of transportation.  In order to ensure an enjoyable ride, please adhere to these helpful tips:

  • Bus operators make stop announcements and provide verbal assistance at multi-route stops.
  • Deposit your fare directly into the fare box. The operators are not allowed to handle money.
  • Eating, drinking, smoking and playing music are prohibited on the bus.
  • Please allow others to exit before boarding.
  • Do not distract the bus operator.
  • JATRAN maintains a lost and found service to assist with prompt return of lost items. All items not picked up in 30 days will be discarded. Call 601-948-7140 for lost items.
  • On Fixed Routes and HandiLift busses, passengers are not required to use seat or lap belts.
