Councilwoman LaRita Cooper-Stokes is a child of God and she gives all thanks and praises to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Councilwoman Stokes is the third person to serve the citizens of Ward Three on the Jackson City Council under the Mayor/Council form of government: Doris P. Smith served on the Jackson City Council for one term, 1985- 1989 and Kenneth I. Stokes served on the Jackson City Council, being elected to six terms, from 1989- 2012. Mr. Stokes was elected Hinds County Supervisor in 2011; Councilwoman Stokes succeeded her husband, Kenneth I. Stokes, by being elected to serve the unexpired term for Ward Three in March of 2012. 

Councilwoman LaRita Cooper-Stokes is currently serving a four-year term which began in July, 2013.

Councilwoman Stokes is an attorney with over twenty-five years of experience. She is a graduate of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston; Jackson State University and Lanier High School. She is a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

A mother and a grandmother, she is a strong advocate for the children of our community who are the future leaders of tomorrow. Also, Councilwoman Stokes believes that the vibrant senior members of the Jackson community must be respected and made a priority in public policy.
