Gus McCoy

Born June 10, 1966 in Manhattan, New York, Gus McCoy moved to Mississippi from Wilmington, North Carolina in 1981. He lived in Clinton Mississippi and attended Clinton High School where he graduated in 1984. He currently resides in Jackson,Mississippi.

He is a graduate of Belhaven University. He was an employee of Entergy, Mississippi for over 18 years as an electrical mechanic. Mr. McCoy has several businesses and currently he is a licensed independent insurance agent with Porter’s Insurance Agency.  In 2008 Mr. McCoy founded The Metro Youth Initiative a non-profit that focuses on uplifting our youth from poverty through educational opportunities.

Mr. McCoy is married to Mrs. Melissa A. McCoy and they both are members of New Jerusalem Church, pastored by Dr. Dwayne K. Pickett Sr. He has served as:

  • Youth Pastor of New Jerusalem Church
  • Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated Omicron Gamma Chapter-Belhaven University, where he serves as Chaplain and Treasurer.
  • Board Member of the Hinds County Democratic Executive Committee
  • Board Member of the Urban League of Greater Jackson
  • Board Member of the 100 Black Men of Jackson (2006-2008)
  • Board Member of the Margaret Walker Alexander Research Institute
  • Immediate past President of the Jackson Branch of the NAACP (2005 -2009)
  • Board Member of Our Community Salutes of Mississippi for the US Army.

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the City of Jackson is appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. The CAO carries out policy and manages the daily operations of City government. The CAO serves as a liaison with City departments and with other governmental agencies receiving funding from the City. The primary purpose of the Office of the CAO is to assist in the delivery of quality services to the citizens of the City of Jackson.
