How Do I?
Code Services

The Office of Code Services serves as the City of Jackson's regulatory authority on the building environment.  We protect the safety, health and welfare of the public through the administration of the City's adopted building code, currently the 2012 International Building Code.  All building construction in the City of Jackson, be it new construction or an addition or alteration to an existing structure, must be approved by the Building Official before construction begins.

The Building Permits and Inspections Division is committed to the accurate and efficient processing of permit applications and site inspections.  Our staff is also tasked with educating the public and our customers regarding the adopted codes and the permitting process.

The Signs and License Division is responsible for reviewing and approving applications for sign permits.  Signs inspectors are responsible for locating illegal signs and notifying owners to correct the violation or risk being fined.

Codes and Permit Center

The Codes and Permit Center serves as a one-stop shop to simplify the construction and development process by combining virtually all permit applications and review activities within a single office.

Before any construction begins, building plans must be submitted for approval and permits must be obtained.  After it has been determined that the land is properly zoned and platted, applicants must comply with the legal requirements to build a new structure, addition, and major remodeling.
