A life-long Jacksonian, Margaret C. Barrett-Simon graduated from St. Joseph High School and the University of Southern Mississippi.
She was first elected to the Jackson City Council in 1985. In her 21 years of experience on the Council, she has served as President, Vice President, and Chair of the Planning Committee, Budget Committee, Rules Committee, Legislative Committee, Homeless Task Force and the Transportation Committee.
She is very active in the local community through her service to various civic organizations. She currently serves on the board of the Salvation Army, Farish Street YMCA, School of Liberal Arts for Jackson State University and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
She serves as the Advisory Council Member and Chair of the National League of Cities, National President of Women in Municipal Government and State President of Women in Municipal Government. She is involved in the Urban Poverty Task Force, the National League of Cities Institute for Youth, Education and Families and the Mississippi Municipal Association.
She and her husband, Dr. Al Simon, have five daughters.
