A native of Greenville, Mississippi, Marshand K. Crisler earned his Associate's degree in Criminal Justice from Hinds Community College and a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Corrective Services from Jackson State University.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 4½ years and during which time, he served in the Persian Gulf War. He currently maintains military status as Major for the 112th Military Police Battalion and serves as the Deputy Director of Security Forces for the Mississippi Air National Guard's 172nd Security Forces Squadron.
In 1999, he accepted the position as Chief of Police for the Utica Police Department and became the first African American to serve on this capacity.
He recently initiated a new pilot program, Excel to Achieve, which recognizes outstanding achievements of today's youth. He is involved in various organizations such as: the Sanderson Lodge's Masonic order, 100 Black Men of Jackson, and serves as Board of Directors for the National League of Cities Leadership Training Council.
He and his wife, Charlotte, have three children, Rashaad, Dominique, and Marshea Kenyanna.
