The West County Line Road project is a two phase project designed to improve traffic flow between State Street and Tougaloo College. The new roadways that are being built will also open previously inaccessible areas to new development.
In Phase 1A, West County Line Road is being widened to 4 lanes and relocating part of the road to connect with East County Line Road. In addition, Richmond Grove Road is being extended to the relocated West County Line Road. Construction of Phase 1A is nearly complete.
In Phase 1B, the Canadian National Railroad will be relocated and elevated to allow for construction of an underpass for both the existing West County Line Road and new West County Line Road. Rand Street will be extended and rebuilt between West County Line Road and Brown Street. The existing railroad crossings on Brown Street and Richmond Grove Road will be closed and removed. Right-of-Way acquisition for Phase 1B is underway.
