Engineering
Mission Statement
The Engineering Division plans, designs and manages the construction of the City's infrastructure. Engineering's responsibilities are divided into several categories:
This section is responsible for all engineering, architectural, and landscape architectural work for the City, including the design and construction of the City's capitol improvement projects.
The Engineering Division is responsible for managing the City's participation in the National Flood Insurance Program and providing information about and regulations regarding the use of floodplains.
The Engineering Division administers some of the requirements of the City's NPDES Permit.
The Engineering Division manages traffic operations, which include the installation of traffic control devices to ensure safe and efficient use of public streets/right-of-way. The Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program and the Decorative Street Sign Program are a part of Traffic Management.
The Engineering Division provides surveying services for city projects. In addition, the City Surveyor reviews and approves all plats including preliminary and final subdivision plats.
The Engineering Division is the City's on-site representative for the construction, alteration, and repair of buildings, highways, streets, sewer systems, water systems, and any other capitol improvement project.
The Engineering Division conducts traffic counts, intersection warrant studies, and speed studies to determine if there is a need for traffic signals, signs, and pavement markings.
The Engineering Division's Administrative staff manages office activities.
