The mission of the Crisis Intervention Unit is to address the intervention and prevention of domestic violence and to reduce the incidences of violent and deadly behavior occurring among family or household members not mitigated because of the relationship or living arrangement of those involved. Our Crisis Intervention Unit has developed a comprehensive domestic violence intervention and prevention program to encompass law enforcement, the judicial system, partnerships with social service agencies and victim advocate organizations, governmental agencies, and an educational program for the community.
The goal of this unit is to reduce violence by prevention and intervention of those conditions which can cause domestic violence. The position of the Social Worker in the Crisis Intervention Unit is to work with dysfunctional families and persons as an early intervention process in crisis and violent situations.
Services are available to families or individuals who are victims of domestic violence upon request or when referred from judiciary case screening or police reports. Social workers will assess social-psychological and treatment needs of involved persons, provide referral to appropriate agencies and provide follow-up contacts to facilitate use of and participation in referral programs.
In addition to services made available to victims of domestic violence, Crisis Intervention Social Workers provide counseling and services to the families/next of kin of individuals who have lost their lives through homicide, whether the homicide was ths result of domestic violence or not.
Anyone needing assistance or services as described above is encouraged to contact Crisis Intervention at one of the locations / phone numbers listed above.
In addition to those services provided by the Jackson Police Department, individuals who are victims of a violent crime MAY be eligible for relief or assistance, including financial aid, as provided by Mississippi Code Section 99-43-1, et seq.
