The Senior Services Division promotes and encourages independence and self-sufficiency among the elderly population in the City of Jackson through multifaceted direct and indirect components in the areas of meal service, nutrition education, safety, recreation, transportation, information/referral outreach services, special programs, employment opportunities, etc. through multi-purpose senior citizens community centers.

Services and Programs
Eligibility
All qualifying individuals aged 55 years or older living within the city limits of Jackson are eligible for select programs and services.
Special Programs
The division offers several special activities and programs that promote socialization and community involvement. Health screenings, health-themed months and weeks, pageants, and fashion shows are aimed at encouraging older persons to enjoy active lifestyles and promoting awareness of current issues in health and nutrition.
Special Transportation Program
The Special Transportation Program provides elderly and disabled individuals with transit mobility that promotes independence (i.e. errands, shopping, and medical appointments).
Recreation Programs
Diversified recreational activities are offered to meet the needs and interests of older persons (i.e. aerobics, ceramics, art, table games, sewing/quilting, field trips, line dancing, pool, cultural events, etc.).
Senior Employment Program
The Senior Employment Program provides subsidized employment and training to persons aged 55 years and older.
Senior Security Program
The Senior Security Program provides crime prevention mechanisms as well as safety and crime prevention information to persons aged 62 years and older.
Information / Referral /Outreach
The Senior Services Division, in collaboration with many private and public agencies, provides older persons with a link to agencies and existing services.
Senior Advocacy Services (SAS)
Senior Advocacy Services is a resource and assistance service for seniors which serves as the focal point for problem resolution.
Congregate Meal Service
The Congregate Meal Service provides persons aged 60 years and older with a well-balanced meal Monday through Friday in a congregate setting.
Home Delivered Meal Service
The Home Delivered Meal Service provides a well-balanced, nutritional meal, Monday through Friday, to incapacitated homebound persons aged 60 years and older.
