A native of Vicksburg, MS, Robert M. Walker brings a wealth of experience and insights in government to the position of Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Jackson, Mississippi.
A graduate of Jackson State College (now Jackson State University) and the University of Mississippi, Walker also attended graduate school at the University of Louisville. He has worked in the areas of civil and human rights with the NAACP and Legal Services, he is a former university history professor with more than 15 years in the classroom.
Walker has nearly 20 years experience in government at the federal, state, county, and municipal levels, having worked at the Interior and State departments at the federal level, and as Assistant Secretary of State for Elections for the State of Mississippi. He was elected twice to the Warren County Board of Supervisors, and he was elected Mayor of the City of Vicksburg on three occasions.
Known for his attention to details and his grasp of the big picture, Walker brings to the chief administrative position a keen knowledge of the conceptual framework and inter-workings of government, an uncommon work ethic and commitment to improving the human condition, and a successful record of working with people and getting things done.
Walker serves on a number of boards and commissions, including the Stennis-Montgomery Institute of Government, the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Municipal League, Middle Mississippi Council of the Girl Scouts, the Enterprise Corporation of the Delta, the Mississippi Civil War Battlefields Commission, and others.
He is married to the former Sylvia L. Stalls of Vicksburg, and they are the parents of three daughters.
