Legal Relievers Program |
The Capital City Legal Relievers Program is a partnership with the Office of the City Attorney and leading private sector attorneys to restore effective and efficient legal representation to the City of Jackson. The City Attorney entered into agreements authorizing participating attorneys and firms to represent the City of Jackson, waiving any conflicts of interest in return for the pro bono work performed and assuming ultimate responsibility for the lawsuits to insulate the participating attorneys and firms against any claims of professional negligence. The Program is beneficial to the City of Jackson by reducing the number and use of paid outside counsel.
The Program has already proven successful in cases. Butler Snow helped the City of Jackson to secure the dismissal of a $12 million dollar lawsuit and a win before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, which saved the the City $1.4 million.
