The Economic Development and Planning Department promotes economic development in Jackson by helping new and existing companies meet their goals for growth while creating jobs and improving the quality of life for residents. It is also responsible for stimulating housing development while preserving the city’s architectural and historic landmarks and neighborhoods, and protecting the quality of life through zoning regulations. Site Plan Review and Subdivision review is processed through this Department working with Police, Public Works, and Legal. The Department provides planning staff and services to City Council, Planning Commission, Jackson Historic Preservation Commission, the Chief Administrative Officer and to citizens.

In addition to working with a local real estate sales person, the Hinds County Economic Development District maintains an inventory of larger buildings suitable for industrial/warehousing needs.

I represent a housing non-profit organization and would like to know more about funds and programs available? The Community Development Office offers several programs that may be helpful to your organization. In addition, the City may be able to procure tax-forfeited land from the State of Mississippi that will help you with infill sites.
