Second City Bridge Reopens Following Repairs Made with 1 Percent Sales Tax Funds

The Ready Mix Street Bridge has reopened to traffic after crews completed work replacing the original structure, using 1 Percent Sales Tax funding.

The original bridge was constructed in 1962 and had exceeded its structural life expectancy.  Engineers with the City of Jackson Department of Public Works designed the new precast structure, and in April, Mayor Tony T. Yarber and the Jackson City Council agreed to hire Dozer, LLC, to build the new bridge.

The Ready Mix Street Bridge is the second one this year to be paid for with 1 Percent Sales Tax funds. The Hanging Moss Street Bridge had been closed in 2015 due to structural damage and reopened June 14.  The City used nearly $400,000 in 1 Percent Sales Tax dollars to replace it.
