Mayor Tony T. Yarber Names Hudson's Bay Company 'Business of the Quarter'


Hudson’s Bay Company has been named the Business of the Quarter starting October 2016. As part of the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) family, the Jackson Service Center is one of the city’s best kept secrets and an integral part of one of the fastest growing department store retailers in the world.

Founded in 1670, Hudson’s Bay Company is the oldest company in North America and operates ten banners including Hudson's Bay, Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, Gilt and Saks OFF 5TH, along with Find @ Lord & Taylor and Home Outfitters. In Europe, its banners include GALERIA Kaufhof, the largest department store group in Germany, Belgium's only department store group Galeria INNO, as well as Sportarena.

The 275,000 square foot Jackson Service Center was opened as the executive office and primary distribution center for McRae’s Department Stores in 1978. In the eighties, the distribution operations were moved to nearby Bryam; however, the Jackson facility continued to flourish as an executive office as McRae’s grew. In 1994, McRae’s was bought by Proffitt’s. By the time Proffitt’s was renamed as Saks Incorporated in 1998, the Jackson Service Center had become an important operations center for major retail and today serves as a critical operations hub for Hudson’s Bay Company.

The Jackson Service Center employs more than 700 people who serve a variety of functions including Information Technology (IT), Customer Contact Centers, Payroll and Procurement, to name a few. All of this “behind the scenes” work enables the day-to-day operations of the Hudson’s Bay Company, allowing more than 66,000 employees around the world to focus on delighting customers.

Hudson’s Bay Company is committed to giving back to local and global organizations, and encourages employee involvement in charitable initiatives. The Jackson Facility has supported many local organizations including United Way, American Heart Association Heart Walk, Habitat for Humanity and many others over the years. Most recently, Jackson associates supported the YMCA Partnership for Youth campaign and have adopted a floor at Batson Children’s Hospital to provide snacks and food items for families in need. Employees at the center also support nearby Clausell Elementary through the Adopt-A-School program, providing volunteers, tutors and other essentials for the school.

We are honored to recognize Hudson’s Bay Company’s Jackson Service Centre. We appreciate HBC’s commitment to the community and job creation. Thus, Hudson’s Bay Company has been named the Business of the Quarter for the quarter beginning October, 2016 by the City of Jackson’s Office of Economic Development and Mayor Yarber.
