Irby Co. Named Business of the Quarter in the City of Jackson

The City of Jackson recently recognized Irby Co., as its third quarter 2016 “Business of the Quarter," with Mayor Tony T. Yarber making a special presentation during Irby’s 90 year anniversary celebration.

Irby continued the celebration by holding a Vendor Expo/Counter Day for customers and business associates, as well as the Jackson community.Visitors enjoyed facility tours, product demonstrations, door prizes and a catered lunch. The celebration continued later that evening with dinner and entertainment at a nearby Jackson facility.

Irby, a distributor of electrical supplies and services with a customer base of industrial, commercial, contractor, and utility businesses, was founded by Stuart C. Irby in 1926 with a single location in Jackson, MS. The company now has 64 locations in 24 states and is on track to be a billion dollar company by year-end 2016. Irby was acquired in 2005 by Sonepar USA, the largest electrical distributor in the world. In 2012, the company opened a new 6 million dollar sales center and corporate facility in Jackson, with about 200 of the 900 company-wide employees.

As depicted in the company’s Vision Statement, Irby is setting out to change the role of the electrical distributor from that of a bid-based provider of electrical products to that of a high-value partner, providing total electrical solutions. An Irby relationship is all about giving customers the greatest long-term value. Irby’s focus is on providing the lowest overall cost of doing business, not just the lowest price on a particular product. As a supply chain partner, Irby arms its customers with the technological and human resources needed to make their supply chain more efficient.

The Irby team approach has helped Irby customers to succeed since 1926 and continues to do so today.

Irby also has a long history of serving local charities in the community. The company recognizes the importance of ongoing human services provided to people in our communities through contributions to both the United Way and Salvation Army organizations. In 2015 Irby employees pledged over $375,000 to these two charities, making it the largest donation in Irby’s history. Another worthwhile Irby community service project is the partnership with Pecan Park Elementary for over 30 years. This partnership allows Irby to provide incentive awards for the teachers and students throughout the school year.

The City of Jackson thanks Irby for being a staple in the business community. The City recognizes
Irby as the “Business of the Quarter” for its longevity, great business acumen and the business’ overall contribution to the health and well being of our business sector.
