Jackson's Business of the Quarter: Gray Daniels Auto Family

The City of Jackson recognizes Gray-Daniels Auto Family as the Business of the Quarter beginning April 2016. The business has several dealerships in Mississippi, with two located in Jackson, the Chevrolet and Nissan dealerships. Bobby Gray and Noel Daniels began building this collaborative of dealerships some 20 years ago, with Mr. Daniels partnering with Mr. Gray after each had enjoyed very successful independent careers for decades. Several years ago, Gary Dodson was brought aboard to handle the day to day operations. While Mr. Gray and Mr. Daniels are somewhat removed from daily dealership activity, their imprint on the city of Jackson and the surrounding area make them natural promoters of the business through community activities or customer referrals. Mr. Dodson is a Lafayette, La., native who ventured to Atlanta and developed a management career in the industry that ultimately led him to Gray-Daniels. He manages this 200 employee operation with the utmost of care as signified in the business’ desire to “strive for every sale and service customer to receive a VIP experience.”
The dealership is in the process of making a huge investment to increase the service area that will allow them to provide extensive maintenance service to vehicles at a reasonable price. In the past, unless it was warranty work, the automobile industry didn’t compete price-wise for this work. The industry is now positioning itself to compete with the independent shops as well as the national chain stores. This investment will allow customers to receive the optimum customer service experience.
Mr. Dodson said he recognizes the extreme importance of economic development and thus appreciates neighboring area investments as it correlates with his business. He said even though we don’t have a company like Nissan in Jackson it helps his Nissan Division and Jackson that they are there because his dealership is the closest to them and thus he gets a lot of new car sales and service work through their employees. He also touts the recently announced future arrival of Continental Tires to Clinton as an economic jolt for our city, due to the great number of employees that are bound to be Jacksonians. He cites these huge investments as reasons the city should be encouraged about the future economy of Jackson and rationalizes that in the future more large corporations should be courted. A great number of his employees are Jacksonians.
The dealership’s Supplier Pricing Program has recently been offered to the City of Jackson employees, alongside other governmental and specialized groups. This program, which is managed by two employees, offers the targeted individuals discounted interest rates and haggle free pricing on new vehicle purchases.
In addition to personal social, civic and monetary contributions by the company’s owners to the improvement of Jackson the dealership supports local youth baseball, contributes to local schools and their athletic programs. The organization also supports the Susan G. Komen Central Mississippi Steel Magnolias, whose purpose is to assist with breast cancer education and measures to find a cure, and of which one of Gray-Daniels’ employees is a very active board member. Another cancer supported organization, American Cancer Society through its Relay for Life activity and the Wounded Warriors project, which provide military veterans assistance in blending back into society once they get back from service to the country are both financially supported by Gray-Daniels.
We are honored to have Gray-Daniels as a part of “car row” on Interstate-55 North and we appreciate their service and devotion to our city through investments, which are beneficial to our citizens financially, socially, and civically, thus the business has been named The Business of the Quarter for the quarter, beginning April 2016 by the City of Jackson’s Office of Economic Development and Mayor Tony T. Yarber.
