A Healthier Jackson: Family Food Day Event

Sunday, October 27

Food Day is a nationwide celebration of healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced foods that take place annually on October 24th. The City of Jackson is partnering with the Jackson Zoo for a Food Day celebration, promoting healthy eating habits and a grassroots campaign for better food policies. The aim is to help people Eat Real by cutting back on sugar drinks, overly salted packaged foods, and fatty, factory-farmed meats in favor of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and sustainably raised meats. The event aims to educate citizens and youth about where their food comes from and how to cook healthy nutrient rich meals. Vendors will educate citizens in the areas of food, health and policy. Several vendors will serve healthy food; provide samples of their menus or specialty items. In addition, there will be teaching stations educating citizens with simple cooking techniques. There will also be fun activities and games for children focused around healthy eating.
